When the business was founded, the president himself was concerned about the environment around his apartments and patrolled the garbage collection area in a small truck.  For eight years he continued to collect garbage the city garbage trucks had missed, separated it in his own garden, and sent it in to the city incinerator.
Astonished at how the large amount of garbage we produce just from our daily lives which was destroying the environment, he firmly came to believe that destroying the environment shouldn’t be the price to pay for living comfortably.. 
Pursuing what it can do as a housing related business was the starting point for Harakosan.

“Important Declaration for the Planet”
From the “waste-less house” concept, we supply apartments with organic waste-less disposers and set out with a recycling business that makes use again of recyclable recourses such as containers, cans, and plastic bottles.  One way we’ve done that is by supplying all-electronic apartments; apartments that don’t emit carbon dioxide (CO2).
In all-electronic apartments, we can suppress the amount of CO2 developed by consuming energy where we live to  cover all electrical energy consumed by lighting, cooking, heating and cooling, bath, and daily life.
All-electric apartments are namely apartments that consume electricity.  Eventually we will increase the load of existing electric generation facilities that have begun to use thermal power.  However, we won’t link global warming prevention and CO2 reduction as a whole only by simply supplying all-electric apartments.
Thinking about producing electricity that doesn’t produce CO2, Harakosan at first launched the “Solar Power Generation System”.
Solar Power systems are installed on the rooftops of all our company’s condominiums.  Wherever possible that were also installed on detached homes and rental apartments built in the past.  In addition, we took up the issue of diffusing and promoting solar panel systems by appealing to the National Network of Real Estate Management Companies about identical initiatives to be taken industry wide.
Among such initiatives, in 2001, the “Advance 21 Kibune” condos equipped with high density solar power generation systems received the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry award ”New Energy Grand Prize” (part of the introduction example). 
For a company in an industry said to be in the center of a tide of destruction on of the environment by the act of developing, receiving this prize can be said to be exceptional.

Towards the Wind Power Generation Business
However, covering enough power generation only with solar panel systems installed on rooftops is difficult.
Reaching this far is the start of a new challenge for the “Power Generation Business” Harakosan
As a first step in the wind power business, we started in 2003 participating in the planning of a business establishing 2 windmills in Yuyacho, Yamaguchi Prefecture (now Nagoto City) by the voluntary sector.  In 2004 we signed a license agreement with the Dutch windmill maker Zephyros and afterwards established Harakosan Europe (Netherlands).  Through this our wind power generation business will gain momentum not only domestically but even oversees.
